A Treasury of Trueness: Gems of Wisdom
Published in Paperback by New Life Foundation (December, 1995)
Author: Vernon Howard
Average review score:

Well worth reading
If you can look beyond the lurid titles of Vernon Howards books, you might be pleasantly surprised to find a truly inspirational perspective. This book, consisting of upwards of 2000 brief remarks about spiritual progress, is indeed an inspirational and oftentimes startling series of observations about the inner world. I feel it would be useful to anyone on a variety of spiritual paths. This book, like Howards others, makes no pretensions to offering a comprehensive, step-by-step "how to do it all" opus, but perhaps that is one of its real strengths. Although occasionally lapsing intobeing merely simplistic ("The first few years of life we buid abrick wall around us; Happiness is better then misery") overall most of the observations are profoundly evocative; i,e; "Inner guidance is heard like soft music in the night by those who have learned to listen".

an outstanding collection of spiritual wisdom
This is an outstanding collection of spiritual wisdom written by an awakened man. It is as refreshing and stimulating as anything that I have ever read. There is no human problem that cannot be solved by studying any page of this remarkable book. Bravo Vernon Howard.

This is a beautiful translation. It is lucid and lively, too.

The Twelve Houses
Published in Paperback by Thorsons Pub (October, 1985)
Author: Howard Sasportas
Average review score:

The best book on houses you will find
The 12 Houses is my favorite book on houses and i have read many. I use this book as my main reference guide for houses for all my consultations and I have found it to be accurate, detailed and very comprehensive.

All the planetary placements by house are described here and very well, with a deep psychological profile as well as examples and facts. I love this book because although fairly simple in its structure ( it looks after all just any other astrology cookbook on houses), the psychology and insight are excellent. It is after all the work of the great Howard Sasportas, such an influencial british astrologer. This is the man that worked for so long side by side with Liz Green and , if I remember well, co-founder of the CPA in London. A non ordinary book from an non-ordinary man, I thoughroughly recommend this book, as you will find it such a valuable tool in your astrologiucal work.

The Twelve Houses must be reprinted!
Howard Sasportas' book, The Twelve Houses, is a must for any suitable study of Astrology. Such a basic subject as the areas (houses) of life must be thoroughly researched, and this book adds much to one's understanding of each planetary place- ment, & it also has some basic info on Chiron placements, & the moon's nodes. A good overview is given of the houses as process, plus aspects between the houses, & much more (valuable) information! A great reference book for beginners and intermediate students of Astrology!

Uncle Wiggily Bedtime Stories (Children's Thrift Classics)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (February, 1997)
Authors: Howard Roger Garis and Thea Kliros
Average review score:

Great book for kids of all ages
Uncle Wiggily was one of the stories I remembered my dad reading to me when I was about 3 or 4. It was my favorite bedtime story. I was surprised to find it still in print all these years later, but I guess I ought not to be. The stories are funny and timeless. A joy to kids and the parent reading will enjoy them too. And they always end with a cute line such as "If the rubber hose doesn't tie itself in a knot and rub molasses all over the postman's umbrella, I'll tell you the (next story.)" Since the copyrights have expired the price so low no parent ought to be without it.

Wonderful wonderful wonderful
I am 60 years old; when I was a child of 5 or so, my mother got me the Uncle Wiggily stories; I still love them! They are charming with true Christian values; I was of a Jewish household, but recognized this many years later when I converted to Christianity. They teach love and generosity of spirit, while being entertaining, and funny. I still shudder at the thought of the Skillery-Skallery Alligator and the Skeezix. Every child should have dozens of these books by Howard R. Garis!

Understanding Grief : A Guide For The Bereaved

Understanding Grief: A Guide For The Bereaved
Howard Lunche's guide for the bereaved, written with knowledge, compassion and understanding helped me understand my own bereavement and to understand bereavemets of loved ones and co-workers. It's brevity and clarity make this guide easy to read - important when one is in the throes of grief. I have purchased multipe copies to share with others; many of whom have expressed their deep appreciation for the guide and the help they received from it.

Sincerely written and understandable
Thank you for this book! After becoming a bereaved, I wanted to read every book I could about loss and grief. Most of them dealt with the terminology of grief or loss, but not the feelings that may sometimes be associated with loss. Howard Lunche's book really hits the mark on breavement, grief and loss. He makes sure that the reader understands the differences and realizes that there are different ways and times people experience grief. Pointing out, there is no right or wrong way to grieve...you just need to allow yourself to feel. This book was written with a great deal of compassion and knowledge about the grieving process. There is no "jargon". He get's it!

Unhandcuffing God
Published in Paperback by Colbert House (February, 2002)
Authors: Howard Caver and James Brown
Average review score:

Unhandcuffing God - never knew I held the key, till now.
"Unhandcuffing God" became the inspiring nudge I needed to take some steps of obedience I had previously avoided due to stubborn fear and pride. God used this book to encourage me to trust Him and allow Him to work the miracles in my life He has been waiting to perform. Like many believers, I was unaware I was even capable of handcuffing God in my life. This book opened my eyes and my life.

In his book, Howard Caver takes the reader through his own real life times of choosing to believe God is who He says He is. You will read about trusting God with your life, reputation, money, family, career, ministry, time and more. You will read the dramatic results of one man's persistent and consistent trust and obedience in his Lord Almighty. There are too many powerful examples to ignore. The book seems to shout with a smile, "God can and will, if you allow Him."

This small 146 page book is an easy read filled with life changing truths and written in a style that leaves the reader feeling loved and encouraged. What a blessing! I have given more than 10 copies to friends. They are now asking for copies to give their friends. WOW!

I think this book could be one of the miracles God has worked through this man's choice to unhandcuff God in his life. Thank you Howard Caver!

Why You Must Get "Unhandcuffing God"
Review: Unhandcuffing God

Author: Howard Caver

For anyone who has wondered if God still uses ordinary people like yourself to accomplish extraordinary things, Howard Caver's "Unhancuffing God" is a must read. The pages of this book are filled with real life experiences of a regular man in North Texas, who does the extraordinary.

Impossible mission after impossible mission is documented in a strait forward manner that draws you into wanting to know what is going to happen next. However, this is not just a history book or an autobiography. For every principal Caver presents, he joins its application to a real life victory that God brought together for him and his small congregation.

As I read through the book I was most impressed by the fact that Rev. Caver seemed to have discovered the secret to answered prayer as well. Although this is not a book on prayer, you become comfortable knowing that he relies time and again on prayer to unhandcuff God's hand in his life.

His non-preachy writing style allows you to assess your own usability by God in relationship to the clear principals outlined for acquiring God's provision and direction in every area of your life.

This book will both comfort and challenge. It leads the reader to feel good about the fact that God wants to use each of us to accomplish the impossible if we will just "unhandcuff" Him and allow Him to work. Great Read 5 Stars

The Usborne Book of Everyday Words (Everyday Words Series)
Published in Hardcover by Usborne Pub Ltd (December, 1999)
Authors: Jo Litchfield, Rebecca Treays, Kate Needham, Lisa Miles, and Howard Allman
Average review score:

Great for 1st Grade classrooms!
My first grade students love this book! It is equally valued by my gifted and also struggling students. The children use it in a story writing center to help when they need to spell a word, or get ideas. This book is arranged by themes rather than alphabetically, for example, there is a 2 page spread of food words. This helps the students who are not ready to look up words alphabetically. The pictures are bright and clear. The book is sturdy enough to survive being handled daily by several students. Easily 5 stars!!

Teh usborne book of everyday words
I think this book is fantastic and should be kept by every parent with little children, even for my own child who is now only one and half year old. She loves this book at first sight. The pictures are bright and look real in the busy everyday environment. Everytime you read it, you discover some new things. The paper quality is good and it is not easy to be damaged by my baby. The problem now I have is I have to read with my baby every page every night before she agrees to go to sleep. She likes to point to every item in the page and ask me to tell her the names.

Values Clarification
Published in Paperback by Values Pr (October, 1992)
Authors: Sidney B. Simon, Leland Howe, and Howard Kirschenbaum
Average review score:

Still unhappy even though "you have it all"? Read this!
Ever wonder why you're still not happy with your life even though it seems like you have it all?

Do you feel uncomfortable when someone asks you what your future holds?

Can't figure out why seemingly little things mushroom into huge problems?

Many of us live our lives behaving how we think others would want us to or doing things a certain way because that's how our parents did it. Values Clarification is a series of self tests that will help you identify and understand, maybe for the first time in your life, what it is that is truly important to you and how to integrate those things into your life.

Each of the excercises is easy to understand and complete regardless of your education level. Another fantastic feature is that many of the excercises also have revised versions for you to use with children and what better gift for a child than a strong and grounded belief in their own values and morals?.

This book is a MUST READ for EVERYONE, so do yourself a great favor and get a copy, then share it with those you love and even (especially?)those you don't!

A must for school counselors!
Values Clarification is an excellent source for junior high and high school counselors. The information and activities lend themselves perfectly for use in large class settings, smaller support group settings, and individual counseling sessions. The activities are eye-opening, interesting and very easy to facilitate. It is well worth the cost of the book.

Virgie Goes To School With Us Boys
Published in School & Library Binding by Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing (February, 2000)
Authors: Elizabeth Fitzgerald Howard and Earl B. Lewis
Average review score:

Virgie Goes to School with Us Boys: A learning experience!
"Girls don't need school." This is the initial tone for Virgie Goes to School with Us Boys in the beginning. This book is honest with its stereotypes and use of language (considering the time it is set in), yet liberal in it's moral. This book is sharp in its interpretation of how life was immediately following slavery, yet daring enough to portray life honestly and frank. The illustrations are vivid and clear allowing the reader to perceive Virgie's(the main character)exact environment. As you read the book, the pictures draw you into the story as if you are another sibling for one of her brothers to pick on. The emotions on each character's faces are clear as if you can read their minds. The watercolors bring the characters to life right before your eyes and portray life as realistic as a picture. Any child would get lost in the beautiful art in these illustrations, as well as learn a little something about the importance of learning.

review of Virgie goes to school with us boys
Virgie Goes to School with Us Boys is notable for its subject matter and illustrations. The story concerns a young African-American girl in Post-Reconstruction Tennessee who hungers to follow her five older brothers to school; young African-American girls did not typically attend school during this time. The story is told in first person by one of the brothers, who is sympathetic to her cause. (Some of the brothers are against her accompanying them, and their comments add tension to the story--will their predictions come true?) The illustrations, watercolors by E.B. Lewis, provide an engaging yet gentle way into the text. The book provides a story interesting to young school age kids (is it possible that kids could actually yearn to be able to go to school?), and also an avenue to talking about social history. As a linguist, I especially liked the respectful yet accurate depiction of Black English Vernacular, which lends the book an evocative note. The book is 'officially' recommended for ages 4-8. Because of the history theme I would extend that to ten year olds.
